On a very fine vintage, this southern wine exudes sun-ripened fruit, a few spicy notes and even a hint of licorice. The palate is velvety, with sensual cherry and long pepper combining in a voluptuous harmony. The daube will prolong this moment. "

Schalk-Willen Joubert's aim is to make Chant Rouge a widely distributed premium brand, like The Chocolate Block, and they're certainly on the right track. Merlot-based, with the remaining 58% made up of carbernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and bits of syrah, petit verdot and sangiovese, this is a subtle, refreshing red with notes of plum, red berries and tomato leaf, with discreet oak. 2024-28″
