During this pivotal spring period, bud thinning emerges as a crucial step in the life cycle of the vine. For our winemakers, this meticulous practice holds particular significance, ensuring the production of exceptional grapes and, consequently, wines of remarkable quality.

What is bud thinning?

Bud thinning, an essential viticultural technique, involves carefully selecting the most promising buds on each vine, thereby eliminating superfluous shoots. This rigorous practice aims to optimize the aeration and sunlight exposure of the clusters, promoting a uniform and optimal ripening of the grapes. By limiting the number of buds, bud thinning also allows for better nutrient distribution, concentrating essential elements on a limited number of fruits. This meticulous approach contributes to improving the quality of the grapes and fostering a more authentic expression of the terroir.

At the Domaine, the selection focuses on two shoots per vine. This thoughtful strategy aims to achieve a perfect balance between the quantity and quality of the harvested grapes. Indeed, limiting the number of shoots allows the vine's energy to concentrate on a smaller number of clusters, thus ensuring exceptional aromatic concentration and wines of remarkable finesse.

Bud thinning represents much more than a simple cultural technique; it is a true craftsmanship within the Domaine ODDO Vallon des Glauges. Every gesture is performed with precision and passion, reflecting the deep respect that the winemakers have for the vine and its terroir.

Thus, thanks to the meticulous bud thinning we practice, wine enthusiasts can expect to discover cuvées of exceptional quality, perfectly reflecting the unique expression of our territory.
